Setting Up Categories - PowerGrade

Categories:
Broad classifications into which you place assignments. Some common categories could be Quizzes, Tests, Projects, and Homework.

You must have at least on category so you can enter scores, both in PowerGrade and in PowerSchool Teacher. You can have as many categories as you wish.

Macintosh Screenshots
1. Open PowerGrade
2. Choose the desired class (A) from the Classes menu.
3. Choose the Windows menu (A).
4. Pick Categories (1) from the drop-down menu. The Categories window will appear, (A) below.

To Create the Categories
Click the New Category button to move the cursor to the Category name entry box.
Enter the Category Name. (Quizzes, Tests, Projects, Assignments - however you grade)
You can change the abbreviation so it will fit easily in a column of the spreadsheet.
The description is optional, but if your school wishes to use the Parent Portal, this description will appear there and can be helpful to parents and students.
If many of your assignments in a particular category are worth the same number of points you may wish to enter a default number. You can always change the possible points for individual assignments.
Click the Accept button to "save" the category and add the category name to the list.
Any categories you create will appear in the category list. You may create as many categories as you wish.
A sample worksheet for planning categories may be downloaded here.
When you are finished setting up Categories, you should set up Final Grade Weighting. For more information, click here.
