| 1. Open PowerGrade |

| 2. Choose the desired class (A) from the Classes menu. |

| 3. Choose the File Menu (A). |

4. Pick Preferences from the drop-down menu.

| 5. Select the Scores Tab (A)

| 6. Enter Absent in the Count as Zero column (A)
7. Click the OK button (B)

8. Enter Absent instead of a score. The score will average as a zero
If the student makes up the assignment, record the grade (in place of the Absent) and the spreadsheet will re-calculate, using the score.

| Another common use of the Count as Zero function would be to add a "NHI" code to indicate a student has Not Handed In an assignment. The assignment would be averaged as zero until a new score replaces the the NHI. |
